Not that he'd bothered to count. Maybe it was just something that had occurred naturally to him.
Of course, life had gone on. He had to let go. He had to -- there was no choice. There was nothing else he could do.
Useless, almost, to cling onto that one sliver of hope that his friend was still alive. Still roaming about. Maybe he wouldn't bother to buy the milk, wherever he was.
